Dumpster, Retainers and Family Home Evening

You know, when you are a kid you have big hopes and dreams. You believe you can be anything you want to be, go anywhere you want! When you have kids, your dreams change and your way of thinking adjusts. But, no where in this shift of thinking, do you ever imagine that you will be standing in a dumpster, outside an elementary school in a river of chocolate milk looking for a retainer!

Parker threw his retainer away with his lunch today! We did not discover this fact until about 9:00 when he was going to bed. He was pretty upset and so we loaded everyone into the car and drove over to the Elementary School. We took a tarp and dumped out giant bags of garbage to sort through. It couldn't have been grosser! It was a pile of milk, soggy bread, corn, mac and cheese, lasagna and peaches. Oh, did I mention that it was raining!! We put on rubber gloves and went to work. We were pretty lucky and found it in the second bag. I was really proud of all of the kids for repressing their gag reflex and helping without complaining. I think it was a good lesson learned although it will be a long time before any of us can ever eat Mac and Cheese or Lasagna again! Parker was pretty cute and offered up a very sweet prayer before we started looking and I think he will be way more careful with his retainer in the future!

What a lucky kid Parker is to have such a supportive family! I would have made my kid buy a new one... so glad you found it!

My sister and i went through a big garbage can in Emery one time to find a binkie. I can't remember if it was for her baby or mine....oh the joys of parenting:)
